7 Kinds of Smart: Identifying and Developing Your Many Intelligences
Published in Paperback by Plume (March, 1993)
Author: Thomas Armstrong
Average review score:

An excellent primer on Howard Gardner's theory
Thomas Armstrong's book make Howard Gardner's theory of multiple intelligences very accessible to the general public. Each intelligence is very well defined. Especially fun are all the suggestions on how to develop these aspects of your own intelligence(s).

Somehow the concept of 'multiple intelligences' developed by Howard Gardner has not been as successful as the one of 'emotional intelligence' developed by David Coleman. It is a shame because 'multiple intelligences' is a multiple as rich and useful as 'emotional intellingence.' Emotional intelligence is a really helpful concept. But, 'multiple intelligences' is even more so.

I feel smarter already
This is a great book. It not only corrects the wrongful thinking of the value of IQ tests, it shows you what real smarts are and how to develop those areas.
For anyone that has children, that think and excel in different areas from each other, this book gives you hope and direction that everyone can be anything they want to be if they put their minds to it.

Double your learning capability easily
This book dives directly into the 7 ways of learning and through examples and suggestions lays them out like tools on a tool belt. You wont be able to use all of them but just one new method put to use can almost double your learning capability. This is evolution. This is a big step along the human species path. Don't go another week without this knowledge - youll not only learn faster but your emagination will be feeding you great things to try from these newly discovered sources. You'll meet new friends who are alive with this new form of intelligence and now that you ressonate with it you can understand them and they will recognize you.

Published in Paperback by Kalmbach Publishing Company (August, 1998)
Author: John Armstrong
Average review score:

Great Source Book
Excellent review of real railroading designs and concepts that can be applied to the model railroad. More helpful than a book of layout diagrams since it gives you the concepts and principles that you can modify for your own layout.

A Must Have Book!
John Armstrong is a master when it comes to realistic track planning. This book provides information the modeler needs when planning his model railroad. Nicely illustrated with numerous photos. A must for the model railroader's library.

Railroad operation fo everyone
When most books try to show you complete layouts, the approach on this book is by far the most comprehensive study on railroad operation. No complete track plans, just operational aspects, yard planning, industrial branches and everything to bring your concept alive.

If you're serious about building your own railroad and has already set your mind on a specific era and is going to start planning the operation, or want to improve your already finished layout, this is the book for you.

Published in Library Binding by Bt Bound (September, 1999)
Authors: Mary Jane Checci, Mary Jane Checchi, and Martha C. Armstrong
Average review score:

This book should be required reading BEFORE choosing a pet
Being a volunteer at a local animal shelter, I often see the results of choosing the wrong pet by people who had no concept of what pet ownership entailed in terms of time, expense, training, etc. or even what the personality of a certain breed or species was like. Are You the Pet For Me provides in an easy-to-read format the ABCs of pet ownership whether it be through adoption or purchase. Hopefully, prospective owners will read this well researched volume BEFORE taking on the responsibilities of a pet so that it will be an enriching experience and not a heart wrenching one.

It's a must read book.
I never had much luck with my pets when I was a kid. My dog never stopped barking, my cat was impossible to train, and my hamster kept waking me up at night. If I'd had a book like "Are You the Pet for Me?", I'd have known just what to do. Mary Jane Checchi tells you everything you need to know about choosing and caring for pets. It's a must read.

Lance Rentzel Former Wide Receiver for the Dallas Cowboys & LA Rams

Should be required reading BEFORE choosing a pet
As a volunteer in a local animal shelter, I see the results of people having chosen the wrong pet and not being informed of all that is involved in caring for that particular animal be it a dog down to a mouse. Mary Jane Checchi has thoroughly researched her subject and has presented in a simple, easy-to-read manner the ABC's of the requirements of various pets. People should be required to read it from cover to cover BEFORE taking on the responsibility of animal ownership either through purchase or adoption.

No Rules: Offbeat Tales of Military Life
Published in Paperback by Writers Showcase Press (October, 2001)
Author: Raymond Armstrong
Average review score:

Refreshingly Different
Most military-type books are sad or violent. This one was refreshingly different. These tales were obviously told by someone with a great sense of humor, someone who very much enjoyed the quirky side of life in the service, and chose to focus on that, as well as remember and cherish it. "No Rules" brought back many memories for me, memories of comradery and mischief as "therapy" against war's backdrop of death and destruction. Good job, Armstrong!

Great book!
I especially liked the stories that were funny.

My favorite was 'Quarantined.' What do you do when your hung-over section won't clean up for the general's inspection--and your tough young combat vets say, 'If you put us in the stockade, at least the VietCong can't shoot at us--sounds like R & R!'

When I read this book, I kept telling these stories to my friends, who got a kick out of No Rules vicariously.

"No Rules"--GREAT READING!!
I've read "No Rules" four times. Each time, I enjoyed it as much as I did the first time. Mr. Armstrong's style of story telling is honest, straightforward and succinct. I earnestly recommend this book for anyone for his or her own reading pleasure, and for gift giving for any occasion.

The Railroad: What it is, what it does
A great refernce book, I have the 3rd edition, I will have to get the fourth edition in time.

A must have
If you want to know everything about railroading, this is THE book to get. I'm in model railroading since 20 years. This book is so comprehensive and full of informations, after the third chapter, I was feeling as if I was a perfect ignorant before!!
It's an hard-to-find book, so if you can get a copy, do it!

Want to know about the RR.. This book is for you.
I purchaced the book used and found it to be an asset to my RR Library. It covers all aspects of the RR especially freight service. My only complaint was the maps in my book are hand drawn and needed to blow them up on copy machine to get a good understanding of what they were talking about. They reference the maps quite a bit and turning back and forth got to be a little tough, so made the copys. Great book... buy it NOW !

Index of Suspicion
Published in Paperback by Writers Showcase Press (December, 2001)
Author: Robert E. Armstrong
Average review score:

Politics, smuggling, and veterinary medicine all meet
Dr. Robert Armstrong is a retired veterinarian, and held the post of animal control officer for the health department in Houston, Texas for ten years. He also served in the Air Force veterinary corps and for three years served as director of medical readiness for the Air Force's European Command. He was based in Southeast Asia and Germany, working with military dogs.

In his follow up to CANIS, his first mystery featuring Dr. Duncan MacDonell, politics, smuggling, and veterinary medicine all meet in a political conspiracy that involves death of a political candidate by what appears to be a rabid cat. Duncan MacDonell happens to be attending a Republican $500 per plate fundraiser for their candidate, Patrick Sawyer. When Sawyer gets into his limo to leave the party, he is viciously attacked by a cat. MacDonell is on the scene, and immediately orders rabies testing done on the offending feline:

"MacDonell scratched his chin. After mulling it over all night he expected the worst, and now he couldn't believe what he had just heard. 'Tell you what,' he said after some reflection, 'run it again and ship a chunk of the hippocampus up to Austin on Monday for mouse inoculation, just to be on the safe side.' 'Run it again?' Aaron whined. 'Run it again,' MacDonell repeated. 'Negative is negative, Doc,' Aaron said. He sounded sober. 'I'm not questioning your result, Johnny.' 'Sounds like it to me. And we usually only do mice if we suspect a false positive.' 'This isn't a usual situation, John. I saw the cat. It was flaming.'"

Armstrong's MacDonell is up against the usual bureaucracy when the candidate dies of rabies, who are only interested in covering their arses instead of getting to the bottom of the conspiracy. Mac is an instantly likeable character, with flaws and brilliance, happily working alongside a wife who is as much of a whiz with a pistol as she is in the kitchen. Set in Houston, Texas, MacDonell shows the reader what life is like in Texas, from the politics to the cooking. In Texas time, politics is gaining political correctness as MacDonell fights for justice against some rich and vindictive opponents. This is an intense and suspense-laden read.

An Entertaining Read
I met and quickly warmed up to Dr. Duncan MacDonell in CANIS. Now he returns in a story about rabid cats. A politician is attacked by a cat and although tests on the animal are negative, the governor still dies of rabies. Was it an unfortunate accident or was the governor murdered? City politics and budget problems continue to plague MacDonell. To complicate matters further, the FBI suspects foul play by MacDonell or someone on his staff. INDEX OF SUSPICION is a well-written, intriguing mystery. The characters are believable and dialogue sizzles. But you get more than just an entertaining read. As in CANIS, Bob Armstrong's expertise shines through. He continues to educate his readers, this time on rabies and how it can be contracted (you don't have to be bitten by a rabid animal), as well as life in the trenches at an Animal Control Center. This was an excellent follow-up in a great series.

Robert Armstrong has written his second gripping thriller.
Dr. Duncan MacDonell, a Veterinarian, finds himself smack dab in the middle of another mystery. When a man is literally shredded in his car by a psycho cat, Dr. MacDonell is there to save his life and get the animal

out of the car. What at first just seems a bizarre incident, quickly escalates into political intrigue. Because it wasn't just any man that was being slashed by a raving cat. It was the Governor.

Who could be behind such an atrocious attack? What kind of monster could

set something like this up? The plot gets thicker and the suspects are out in droves. I couldn't figure this one out till the end and every exciting page kept me up late at night in anticipation.

Robert Armstrong has written his second gripping thriller. I was excited

to see that he continued with the same main characters from Canis and stepped up the intrigue in INDEX OF SUSPICION. I really enjoy his way with dialogue and the life experiences he must draw upon to give the reader a

sense of the atrocities that some animals have to endure during their short lives. I truly enjoyed INDEX OF SUSPICION for it's great writing, excellent information and exciting storyline!

Chin Yu Min and the Ginger Cat
Published in Paperback by Random House (Merchandising) (February, 1996)
Authors: Jennifer Armstrong and Mary Grandpre
Average review score:

Beautiful Illustrations
This is a beautifully illustrated book. We purchased this book to build the library of our soon to be adopted daughter from China.

This book has a moral to the story, however young children may have a difficult time capturing the essence. The story in itself is wonderful and will captivate a young audience.

A Delight For Children Of Any Age
Chin Yu Min And The Ginger Cat, written by Jennifer Armstrong and Illustrated by Mary Grandpre, is yet another fine example of Mary Grandpre's brilliance as an illustrator. Mary Grandpre's paintings linger in the imagination long after the pages have been turned. Jennifer Armstrong does a fine job of adapting a Chinese folktale. Chin Yu Min is the wife of a wealthy man. Chin believes this puts her above everyone in her village. Chin is imperious, haughty and snobbish. When Chin's husband drowns and she runs out of money, Chin refuses the kind offerings of help from the other villagers. One day Chin meets a mysterious cat at the fishing docks who helps return Chin to her previous financial status. It is only when Chin loses the cat that she learns the real value of friendship and humility. Chin Yu Min and the Ginger Cat is delight for children of any age.

Preston McClear...

The art is enough to buy this book!
I am a professional illustrator and got to see Mary Grandpre do a demonstration of her work when in art college. This book is a perfect example of what a very talented artist is capable of. Her use of color and composition make this book a joy to behold!

God the Astrologer: Soul, Karma, and Reincarnation--How We Continually Create Our Own Destiny
Published in Paperback by Torchlight Publishing (April, 2001)
Author: Jeffrey Armstrong
Average review score:

Not what I expected...but What a Great Book!
I bought this book with the thought this would explore Christianity and Astrology. It doesn't.
But I spent the money so I read it. Mr. Armstrong approaches astrology, or should I say sidereal astrology, in this book in a rather interesting manner. He begins by giving a long and drawn out background on himself and where he is coming from that you get caught up in his tale. Then he introduces vedic astrology in a manner not so complex and as foriegn as the average western astrologer might think it is.
I came away with a greater respect for sidereal astrology, not seeing it as so much of a competitor of tropical astrology but as a companion. Scratch that...as a foundation for where we have came from and where we are today.

Profoundly life changing
Beryle Chambers (aka Bhavani Devi) - Poet - Vancouver Canada says: This is a fascinating book that describes a lovingly interactive cosmology in which the Divine acts through special agents existing on a higher level to influence and assist the spiritual evolution of all souls on this plane. Karma then becomes a learning tool rather than a punishment and new ways of perceiving and responding to our personal "life blueprint" are taught. I found the section about how one's Vedic birth chart predicts body type and characteristics particularly interesting.

The book is extremely accessible. While clearly an expert in his field, the author was never pretentious or boring. In fact, he was able to convey all information in a conversational, kind and humorous tone. Additionally, his metaphysical poetry was amazing. As a poet myself, I appreciated and was inspired by the beauty and power in the poems that opened each chapter.

I'll be giving this book to my most beloved friends.

Challenges current Western astrological approaches
God The Astrologer: Soul, Karma And Reincarnation reveals the interconnections between various disciplines and areas of knowledge with respect to the art and science of astrology. Author Jeffrey Armstrong challenges current Western astrological approaches in favor of ancient Vedic astrology, reinforcing the links between religion, science, destiny, and free will. God The Astrologer is a reader friendly, informative, and highly recommended addition to the growing body of astrological literature and inquiry offering students of astrology and metaphysics a superb perspective on modern science and a great cultural tradition of enormous antiquity.
